"Please read the following in its entirety. Current CDC recommendations at this time regarding the COVID-19
booster vaccine is that it is intended for individuals who meet the following criteria which would have resulted
in them having a reduced immune response to their first two vaccine doses:
- Currently receiving active cancer treatment
- Recipients of organ transplants
- Recipients of stem cell transplants in the past 2 years
- Advanced or untreated HIV infection
- Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or medications that suppress the immune system such as biologic medications for rheumatoid arthritis, crohns or ulcerative colitis.
At this time this only applies to about 2% of the population to give them an additional dose of the vaccine since they did not respond adequately to the first two doses. This is a very small number that are in need of this third dose under these recommendations.
Our understanding is that the general population, including all age groups and other conditions that previously qualified people for the vaccine due to being at increased risk for contracting COVID-19, had an appropriate response to the first two doses and will be receiving a new vaccine sometime in the next 2-3 months that will be specific for the delta variant. At this time I anticipate that there will not be any staggered rollout of this vaccine through a phase program like was done with the first vaccine."
